loves of my life

null

I had a wonderful time today with my family.
Brother, Sister-in-law, Nephew, Mom, & Dad.

I love seeing my parents as grandparents.
And I love seeing my brother as a dad.

And, of course, seeing my 1 year old nephew’s 2-toothed grin is the vision of Love, itself.

We played, pointed at goldfish, saw dolphins, went to the farmers market, and tried to put things in our mouth.

It was a beautiful day.

burning elation

Sunday, May 20th, 2007

David Best and crew are making a temple for this year’s Burning Man.

His temples, the way people contribute to them, and their burning are the most impressive art experience I’ve ever seen/felt.

Truly changed my sense of what art can be.

In years past, Grandpa sent things to the playa with me to be burned in the temples. This year will be a particular poignant one for me.

Any mechanics want to chime in?

Saturday, May 19th, 2007

I’m buying a beater RV to bring to Burning Man.

Which should I weigh heavier? Age or mileage?

I’m debating getting a ‘91 with 100K miles Seems to run good.
For the same price I could get one about 5 years older, but half the mileage. (example.

I am NOT a mechanic, so “easy to fix” is much less important than, “rarely breaks down.” I’d rather have fewer, but more expensive, repairs.

age or mileage?

Pink Mobile Palace

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

My new RV fantasy is to get s a newer, smaller (under 25 foot) class C motorhome.

With my mechanical ignorance, I can’t be getting anything that needs tinkering. I want my tinkering to be cosmetic only. 

Plus smaller ones are much easier to park and have much better gas milage, too.

But I still have lots to figure out before I make a decision one way or the other.

Mom

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

I’m about to drive to pick up my mom for a late celebration of Mother’s Day.
I’m wearing a tie, even though she won’t expect it. My hair is pink and she won’t care a bit. She’ll still tell me I look handsome.

I’m kinda glad we are celebrating today, Thursday, instead of last Sunday.

It is not the official day designated to honor my mother.
But my mother deserves daily honor. And I do my best to treat her with such.

Luckily, showering her with love and appreciation is effortless.

For years I’ve called her my “love bond to the world.” I sort of view my relationship with her as a sort of spiritual umbilical cord connecting me to Love. Connecting me to Source. Connecting me to God.

Not the God that makes it way into books and sermons. But the one that blesses me in every moment.

My mom is not filled with material aspirations. My mom’s shelves are not covered in trophies. But she is the one of the most accomplished people I’ve ever met.

She is the catalyst to so much love and so much healthy communication.
She facilitates so many loving connections.
She supports those around her, even when the directions are not in directions she endorses.

Because that is what love is. Seeing the people around you as god sees them. As perfect, ever-growing, infinitely capable vessels of love.

And she makes you feel like, no matter what you do, you live up to those expectations.

Thank you, Mom. For being you, and for loving me.

I love you supremely. I am infinitely grateful for your impact on my life. And I am honored to maintain such a beautiful relationship with you now.

Happy Mother’s Day. Today, and every day.

Love,
-John
