Mom
I’m about to drive to pick up my mom for a late celebration of Mother’s Day.
I’m wearing a tie, even though she won’t expect it. My hair is pink and she won’t care a bit. She’ll still tell me I look handsome.
I’m kinda glad we are celebrating today, Thursday, instead of last Sunday.
It is not the official day designated to honor my mother.
But my mother deserves daily honor. And I do my best to treat her with such.
Luckily, showering her with love and appreciation is effortless.
For years I’ve called her my “love bond to the world.” I sort of view my relationship with her as a sort of spiritual umbilical cord connecting me to Love. Connecting me to Source. Connecting me to God.
Not the God that makes it way into books and sermons. But the one that blesses me in every moment.
My mom is not filled with material aspirations. My mom’s shelves are not covered in trophies. But she is the one of the most accomplished people I’ve ever met.
She is the catalyst to so much love and so much healthy communication.
She facilitates so many loving connections.
She supports those around her, even when the directions are not in directions she endorses.
Because that is what love is. Seeing the people around you as god sees them. As perfect, ever-growing, infinitely capable vessels of love.
And she makes you feel like, no matter what you do, you live up to those expectations.
Thank you, Mom. For being you, and for loving me.
I love you supremely. I am infinitely grateful for your impact on my life. And I am honored to maintain such a beautiful relationship with you now.
Happy Mother’s Day. Today, and every day.
Love,
-John

beautiful … and it’s obvious what a kind, loving wonderful mother she is because she raised two very kind, loving and wonderful men.
